Principal consultant

"I was raised by my grandmother in Mexico City before coming to Los Angeles as a teenager to reunite with my parents. I was introduced to community organizing during my senior year in high school when as an undocumented student I was unable to pursue my dreams of a college education and I saw my family and community at the crossfire of anti-immigrant legislation and attacks. For the past 20 years, I have been working to build grassroots power and collective action based on values of justice, love, and compassion." -Deycy

Deycy Hernandez is a consultant that has worked with communities of color as a community organizer, policy director, facilitator, coach, and director of high impact collective impact initiatives and coalitions for over 20 years.

Most recently, Deycy led efforts in Boyle Heights from planning into implementation of a collaborative that is strengthening outcomes for students and families and winning system-level changes to improve community conditions. Prior to joining Promesa Boyle Heights, Deycy served as the Director of Advocacy and Organizing for the New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC) where she worked alongside multi-ethnic grassroots organizations, parents, and schools to win landmark victories for immigrant communities and English Language Learner students.

Deycy obtained her Bachelor’s degree from UCLA and a Master’s degree in Education Policy from Harvard’s Graduate School of Education where she also served as a research assistant for the Harvard Civil Rights Project.
